This commission piece, titled Beachfront Playground, holds a special story that makes it more than just artwork—it’s a connection between art, emotions, and people. It all began at Gallery North in Setauket, where my original piece Summer Time was exhibited. During the reception, Summer Time was quickly acquired by a collector, but the gallery graciously shared my information with a new admirer who had deeply connected with the piece.
This individual and his partner reached out to commission a similar work, intending to give it as a holiday gift. It was an honor to hear what resonated with them about Summer Time—the textures, colors, and the vibrant, joyful energy of the piece. We worked together to bring those same feelings into Beachfront Playground, ensuring it had its own unique charm while capturing the essence of the original.
The process of creating this artwork was as meaningful as the final result. Understanding what they connected with and translating that into a new visual expression was a fulfilling challenge. It reminds me why I create: to evoke emotions and forge connections through my work.
The Impact of Gifting Local Art
Giving the gift of local art is a powerful gesture for the holidays or any special occasion. It supports local artists, fosters a sense of community, and adds a personal, heartfelt touch that is unmatched by mass-produced items. Art carries stories, emotions, and individuality, making it a gift that resonates deeply with its recipient.
When you choose to give local art, you’re not just giving an object—you’re sharing a piece of the artist’s journey and creating a lasting memory for the recipient. It’s a meaningful way to show thoughtfulness and appreciation while celebrating creativity and culture.
To the new collector and their partner, thank you for trusting me to bring your vision to life and for embracing the beauty of local art. May Beachfront Playground bring joy and inspiration for years to come!
